After the Tide is a quiet reflection on the relationship between the sea, home, and memory. The work brings together an old coastal house and a pearl resting inside a seashell, evoking Bahrain’s deep connection to the sea and its pearling heritage. I wanted to capture the feeling of what remains after the tide recedes—the traces of a place, memories held within old walls, and the lasting presence of the sea. The abandoned house suggests a connection to the past, while the pearl becomes a symbol of what is precious and enduring.
The artwork is created using charcoal, pencil, and pan pastel on paper. I chose these monochromatic materials to emphasize texture, light, shadow, and the weathered character of the architecture. The soft tonal layers create a sense of stillness and nostalgia.
